Built for the space between hospital and home.
An independently owned residential treatment home in the Portland area, created for adults who need more support than living alone allows, and far less restriction than a hospital.
Our mission
To offer adults living with serious mental illness a safe, beautiful, and stable home, where they are treated with dignity and supported toward goals of their own.
Many of the people we hope to serve have spent months or years moving between hospitals, shelters, and short stays. What helps most is rarely more intensity. It is consistency: the same faces, the same routines, a door that stays open, and people who believe things can get better.
That is what we are building at Belmont. A home that is calm and well cared for, because the places we live shape how we feel. And a team that treats every resident as the author of their own recovery.
Our approach
The principles behind our care
Our program is being designed around Oregon's standards for residential treatment and the principles that guide the best community mental health care.
Trauma-informed
We assume many residents have lived through hard things, and train our staff to lead with safety, choice, and trust.
Recovery-oriented
Recovery looks different for everyone. We focus on strengths, hope, and the next realistic step, never a fixed timeline.
Least restrictive
Residents keep as much independence and choice as is safe for them, and gain more as they are ready.
Community-based
Real access to the wider community, as Oregon's home and community-based services standards require.
Family-inclusive
With a resident's permission, loved ones stay informed and involved. Family is part of the support system, not a visitor to it.
Why five beds
Small, on purpose
Oregon allows a Residential Treatment Home to serve up to five adults. We see that limit as the entire point.
- Staff notice more. Changes in sleep, mood, or appetite are caught early in a small household.
- Residents feel at home. Five people sharing a kitchen is a household, not a unit.
- Families get real answers. The people you speak with truly know your loved one.
- Transitions are gentler. A quiet home is easier to settle into after a hospital stay.
Our team
The people who will make it home
Belmont is locally owned and independently operated. We are assembling our founding care team now, and choosing with great care. Here is how care at Belmont will be staffed.
Program administration
An administrator who oversees daily operations, admissions, staff training, and compliance with Oregon's rules.
Mental health support staff
Staff who lead skills training, support each resident's service plan, and document progress with care.
Residential care staff
At least one trained direct care staff member on duty at all times, awake and dressed through the night, for support and safety.
Community clinicians
Each resident's psychiatric prescriber, therapist, and primary care provider, with whom we coordinate closely.
